Hello everybody. Congratulations to the developers for what I think is the best rugby video game so far.
There is however an inconceivable lack for what is intended to be a simulation of actual rugby. It's impossible to score a goal by a maul or a scrum. It's also impossible to collapse a maul/scrum. These are fundamental moments in a rugby match and RC4 cannot be considered a complete game without them.
Scrum: Most collapses and fouls in a scrum are due to the "front row collapsing" foul. Equally, the supremacy of a scrum is generally due to the front row. Why not introduce the option of pushing with the loosehead or tighthead prop so that the direct opponent collapses? Taking care not to exceed and therefore not to collapse the scrum? Or instead pushing to make it collapse?...
It would be enough to press carefully maybe L1 (loosehead p.) or R1 (tighthead p.) during the scrum mini game.
Maul: The defense may use the same buttons to collapse an advancing maul, and the attack to score once the maul has crossed the goal line.
All this would allow us to finally watch penalty tries and somehow replicate the battle of the front rows. With the addition - for the developers - of just two more animations or a little more.
Add here for a second time my thoughts after the first update. Copy and paste:
I join @Cobus's suggestions that are nearest to mine. However, dear developers, I must observe that it is really a pity that, in the first patch, you did not take any account of our proposals. Scrum/Maul driving and collapsing are a huge, huge lack in this video game that aims to be as realistic as possible. If after Rc1, Rc2 and Rc3 you are still not able - or you don't care - to let us score a goal with a maul or a scrum, or allow us to make them collapse (in short: to include in the game the war of the forwards, which is really at least 50% of a real rugby match), tell us clearly. In this case we will stop advising our friends to buy Rc4. It's very sad...
Maul try also in rugby sevens!
Thanks for the suggestion here guys!
@Stefano Valente I totally agree with your suggestions and I really like the possibility to push with the props via L1/R1 while the scrum is going on. Same thing with the maul.
Rugby matches nowadays absolutely depend on scrum and maul supremacy, on their tries scored and their fouls.
Actually it is a huge gap for a game as complete and realistic as RC4 not to allow scoring/collapsing of mauls and scrums.
I hope the developers will solve this issue otherwise the gameplay will be distorted and missing of a basic aspect.
Another point to correct IMO is that too many players participate in the rucks.
Brumbies score 3 tries from 3 using maul...
