I've been trying to play more through my 10 lately with a L1/R1 pass from the 9 at the ruck. Besides the lack of the ability to position your 10 inside of the forwards, and the lack of the ability to set your forward pods farther back, I've noticed another major problem: forwards don't have running lines if you L1/R1 pass off 9. Here's how this plays currently:
In a real game, the forwards would start their run forward, making the defense think about who is getting the ball, fixing them in place. This gives the back more space. Right now in RC4, the back receives the ball satisfactorily on the front-foot, but the forwards stand still, and then back up to (I assume) be support, so the defense just rushes in.
Here's how you can improve:
With this change, the forward pod and the back move together, creating a difficult picture for the defense. In my opinion, the 10 should get preference for this spot. The forwards would then end their run and jog to their next position shortly after the 10 receives the ball.
To go even further, here's what I would absolutely love to see:
This is what playing off 10 in a 1-3-3-1 looks like.
