Hey there, just got a few ideas as to how I feel the game can improve for the next version of the game.
Defence.
I feel the defence needs to be more on the fly without the menus interrupting the flow of play so I thought why not have a setup sort of like this where you use the L1 and R1 buttons to slide the defence left and right and press both buttons together to compress the defensive line in line with the ball carrier, this would allow for a natural control and flow of left or right defensive line movement and leave the dpad for other options.
I feel the dpad could be used to choose to have man marking on or off so you can not only slide your defensive line but toggle your players to mark their nearest opposites creating a deeper and more engaging defensive line.
Other dpad options could include rush or hold so your defensive line can be controlled to hold their line for a patient style or rush defence to put pressure on the attacking team.
Attack.
What I feel could be done to create a more simple to use but effective attacking game is to strip out the dpad and menu style options and go for a similar gameplay mechanic as the Rugby League Live series (preferably RLL2) where you have players set up and run various running lines and decoys and support play. This would create more flow and structure on attack as well as bring even more realism to the game while keeping it much more simple to pick up and play as well as creating more depth.
Dpad options on attack could be to control the depth and or width of the attacking line, these options could change the structure of your attacking line. By having less width on attack means you will likely do short passes and take less attacking chances grinding it up slowly, or wider attack with a deeper line set up you could pass wider and have options for decoys and various passing plays to support runners depending on your players setup.
Passing.
I would adopt the icons overhead passing options (L1 or R1 + buttons) as I feel it would be tidier and I'd remove the wayward long passes and have the ball always go to the hand of the widest player regardless of the width of the pass, though having pass icons should clean that up.
That's all for now, I hope these ideas spark some new ideas that can help take this series to a new level.
Thanks for your time.
Great list of suggestions here @Reon Arthur !
