There doesn't seem to be a swingman position (DEF-FWD I would expect to see). Using Richmond as an example, Noah Balta who plays KEY FWD, RUCK and KEY DEF doesn't really fit the category to play only one key spot. Maybe just a general KEY POS position would suit here.
Another would be an outside player. Sydney Stack plays back flank, wing and forward flank. I have changed him to MID-FWD but the game doesn't take into account his backline use. Shane Edwards in another. As there is no MID-DEF position any backline use is taken away by the game. Brandon Ellis is in the same boat. My suggestion would be UTIL to be a general utility player who the game will use in any of the outside positions and a small amount of time in the midfield
I feel like having more players in this role could slightly but not completely help the issue where players are out of position. It's something to do with the interchange. A player that really comes to mind that suits this role is Shaun Burgoyne. The ultimate utility player
Awesome points! I'll get this over to the team and see what we can do. Much appreciated for the well written suggestion, too :)
